Significant increase in help for school white sports
Berni Álvarez, the Minister of Sports of Catalonia, has announced a significant increase in the financing of the Esport Escola Esport Escola (EBE) program, which will amount to 850,000 euros. This decision represents an increase of 175,000 euros compared to the previous year, aimed at strengthening the sports councils of the Pyrenees that participate in this initiative that promotes snow sport among elementary students.
Visit to Masella station
The counselor made this announcement during his visit to a snowboarding session, where 37 students from the 4th grade of the Albert Vives school enjoyed an active day in Masella. His presence served to connect with the young athletes, and later held a meeting with those responsible for the EBE at La Molina station, which is managed by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya.
Objectives of the new funding
With the increase in grants, which will increase from 675,000 to 850,000 euros for the 2024-25 academic year, it seeks to adapt the eligible modules to current needs. Álvarez emphasized that this measure is part of a wider effort to promote school sport as an essential part of the Esport360 project, which seeks to expand access to physical activity in various fields, including education.
Economic and training benefits
The counselor emphasized that the EBE not only promotes the practice of winter sports among children, but also benefits the local economy of the Pyrenees and the snow sector. It also promotes the training and employment of ski technicians, contributing to professional development in this area.
Collaboration between institutions
The Government of the Generalitat works collaboratively with various entities, including the Catalan Winter Sports Federation and the Sports Councils of the Pyrenees, to make this program a reality. Berni Álvarez thanked all the agents involved in the project, recognizing their efforts and dedication to achieving the goals set.
Promotion of winter sports among young people
The EBE, who has already reached its twelfth edition, is designed for students of 3rd and 4th grade and this year has involved 2,623 students from 62 schools. Participants have the opportunity to practice alpine skiing, cross -country skiing and snowboarding at mountainous stations in Catalonia, with the support of about 300 technicians from 21 winter sports schools.
Long -term impact
Since 2013, approximately 11,000 boys and girls have enjoyed these sports thanks to the EBE. This program seeks not only to foster the practice of sport, but also to teach values such as respect for nature and coexistence, through sports experience in the mountains of the territory.
Integration in the school curriculum
The EBE integrates into the school curriculum and is performed during the second quarter, with a minimum of 6 to 8 sessions. This initiative is a unique opportunity for students to explore winter sports in an educational environment, promoting not only physical activity but also the valorization of the natural heritage of the Pyrenees.
