A new space to connect with nature to Gandesa

Inauguration of the Natura Center: a step towards sustainability

Gandesa recently welcomed the Fontcalda Nature Center, a natural spa that opens its doors on a regular basis to coincide with the Easter tourist season. Managed by the Aube Environmental Association, this space is to strengthen the valuation of local natural resources.

An immersive experience in biodiversity

The center stands out for its recreation of a section of the Canaletes river, surrounded by real size reproductions of endangered native species, such as the Iberian goat and the eagle. In addition to the rich fauna, the Natura Center offers a deep look at the social and religious history of the Fontcalda, with guided routes and environmental education workshops designed to raise awareness of visitors.

A project with roots in environmental management

The Mayor of Gandesa, Carles Luz, emphasized that the Natura Center is the result of a program of improvement in forest management started in 2011. This program not only includes the cleaning of forests and the promotion of grazing in areas such as Pándols, but also seeks to promote the formation of new shepherds and the creation of sustainable infrastructure, such as a youth hostel that will be built soon.

The Canaletes river: an ecosystem in recovery

The natural spa and the routes around the Canaletes offer a unique opportunity to explore an environment of great geological and biological interest. Mayor Luz emphasized the return of otters to the river as a positive indicator of the health of the ecosystem, emphasizing the importance of preserving this environment.

A simulation of natural habitats

Pere Josep Jiménez, technical director of the Aube, described the Natura Center as a space that simulates a temporary river, leading the visitors through the history of the place and its hot springs. The recreation of characteristic geological formations, such as the river pots, and the inclusion of various species, such as river crabs and aquatic herbs, add an educational and experiential value to the visit.

Hours and activities of the Natura Center

The Natura Center will be open every day during Easter and also during the summer, from June to September, with morning hours. In addition, the AUBE offers guided tours, training workshops and experiential activities that promote interaction with nature.
