The climate changes in Catalonia
The rain says goodbye to much of Catalonia, leaving images of floods, damage and even government statements about the possible withdrawal of the drought emergency. While it is true that the country has been immersed in a time of intermittent showers and bad weather, it seems that the sun will once again be the king of the weekend, at least on the coast.
Thus, outdoor activities will be the favorite for some people, whether it is walking in the mountains or even enjoying your first visits to the beach. Even so, temperatures will not accompany the good weather, as they will remain at levels similar to those of last week, leaving a bittersweet feeling in their wake.
Differences between the coast and the interior
While a sunny weekend is expected on the coast, cloudy skies will still be seen in the northern regions of Catalonia and rain is expected to persist until after the weekend. Therefore, a very different end of the week is expected on the coast compared to the Pyrenees.
Time prediction
According to the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat), the sun is expected to be the protagonist of the weekend, although in some places in the country rain will also be present. In general, clear or slightly cloudy skies with more abundant high and thin clouds are expected from midday. In the Pyrenees, clouds are expected from mid-morning, which will extend to other points of the northern third throughout the afternoon. At the end of the day, medium clouds will arrive in the west of the country.
Regarding temperatures, no significant changes are expected. Minimum temperatures will be similar or slightly lower than previous days, especially in the northern third. On the other hand, maximum temperatures will rise slightly or moderately, except on the coast where they will remain similar.
Differences by territory
The ideal weekend will be experienced along the entire Catalan coast, from Girona to Tarragona, passing through Barcelona. It will be an end to the week to remember after days of rain. In the interior of Catalonia you will also enjoy moments of sunshine, especially on Friday and Saturday. However, on Saturday afternoon and Sunday rain is expected in some inland regions.
In the north of the country, the situation will be completely different. Some regions such as Vall d’Aran, Pallars Sobirà, Cerdaña, Ripollès and Alt Empordà will have moments of sun on Friday morning, but rain will set the pace for the rest of the weekend. In the rest of the north, rain will arrive on Saturday morning and continue through Sunday.
In summary, a sunny weekend is expected on the coast of Catalonia after the floods, while in the interior and in the north of the country the rains will persist. Each territory will have its own climate, so it is recommended to plan outdoor activities taking into account the weather conditions of each area.
