An unexpected announcement of climate change
After a period of pleasant temperatures and stable weather, experts have predicted a radical change in Spain’s climate. Meteorologist Roberto Brasero has warned of the arrival of an air mass from the Arctic, which will cause a drastic drop in temperatures and winter weather conditions.
The bridge of December: heat and cold in contrast
According to Brasero, the December long weekend will begin with temperatures that will exceed what is usual for this time of year. However, this scenario will change abruptly. During Friday and part of Saturday, much of the country will enjoy pleasant weather, but the north will begin to feel the first breaths of cold.
Arrival of the snowfall
The first snowfalls will be present in the mountainous areas from Saturday, marking the beginning of this radical change. The polar air mass will begin to affect temperatures, which will gradually fall until reaching their most critical point on Sunday.
A possible cold wave on the way
If the forecasts materialize, this cold episode could last until Wednesday, thus meeting the requirements to be considered the first cold wave of the season. Brasero explains that it is defined as such when minimum temperatures remain below significantly low values for at least three consecutive days.
Impact in various regions
The effect of this polar air mass will be especially evident in the north of the peninsula. Cities such as Burgos, León and Pamplona will experience temperatures that will not exceed 5°C, while in Madrid, the maximum will be only 8°C. In contrast, Almeria will remain one of the warmest areas, with temperatures around 19°C.
Recommendations ahead of the impending cold
With the arrival of this winter weather, authorities have issued advice to ensure the safety of the population. It is recommended to be cautious on the roads and in rural areas, as well as to check heating systems and prepare suitable clothing to face the low temperatures.
What seemed like a sunny December weekend will become one of the first winter storms of the season, mainly affecting areas of northern Spain.
