A tragic accident shakes Usera: an out-of-control car causes multiple injuries

A morning of chaos in Madrid

An unfortunate incident marked a morning in Usera, one of the most vibrant districts of Madrid, when a woman lost control of her vehicle. This loss of control resulted in a serious collision that directly affected five people, including three minors.

Rescue and emergency response

Madrid’s emergency services, including Samur-Protecció Civil, reacted quickly. At the scene, immediate assistance was provided to the injured, resulting in the hospitalization of four people with minor injuries. However, another victim is in a more critical condition, with a reserved prognosis.

Ongoing investigation into the incident

The Municipal Police of Madrid is currently carrying out an investigation to clarify the circumstances that led to this accident. Firefighters also participated, helping with both health and traffic management to minimize chaos around the affected area.

Alarming data on road safety

This incident is not isolated. According to data recently published by the City Council’s Open Data Portal, Madrid recorded more than 20,000 accidents last year. However, the current year has seen a reduction, with fewer than 17,000 accidents reported so far.

Most affected district

The districts of Puente de Vallecas and Salamanca are the ones that have recorded the most traffic incidents, with figures exceeding a thousand accidents each. Other areas that have shown high accident rates include the Centre, Carabanchel and Chamartín.

Accident patterns in the city

The patterns shown by the statistics are disturbing, with most incidents occurring between 12pm and 5pm. This, combined with the fact that Thursday and Friday are the most problematic days in terms of road safety, provides a clear view of when the roads are most dangerous.

Black spots in Madrid

Madrid also has areas identified as ‘black spots’, where accidents are concentrated in an alarming way. The A-2 near Pont de la Cea has been identified as one of the most problematic areas. However, it is only one of many places that need urgent attention to improve road safety.

A look towards better security

With 96.74% of alcohol tests giving negative results, the issue of alcohol use as the main cause of accidents is reduced. Society, very aware of the risks, is demanding infrastructure improvements and additional measures to ensure everyone’s safety on public roads.
