A Unique Journey: One Man’s Quest Through the UK’s Boyes Stores

An Unconventional Adventure Begins

In a delightful twist of fate, a recently retired individual from North Yorkshire has embarked on an extraordinary expedition to explore every Boyes store scattered across the UK. Jonathan Scandrett, a 60-year-old enthusiast of bargain shopping, has dedicated himself to visiting all 81 locations, utilizing public transportation for this whimsical quest.

The Viral Attraction of March

Among the many stops on his journey, Mr. Scandrett recently made headlines by visiting the Boyes store in March, Cambridgeshire. This particular branch gained viral fame online due to its proximity to a now-closed pet shop, humorously dubbed ‘Pet Shop Boyes’ after the famous British band. The store’s quirky location sparked interest across social media platforms, turning it into a must-see destination.

A Memorable Welcome

Upon his arrival in March, the local Boyes store pulled out all the stops to celebrate Mr. Scandrett’s visit. Colorful balloons adorned the entrance, and a festive welcome sign was displayed, creating a warm atmosphere that caught the attention of passersby. Autumn Wilding, the store supervisor, remarked on the impact of his visit, stating, ‘It has certainly sparked conversations in the community and placed us on the map.’

The Cost of Adventure

Mr. Scandrett’s journey has not been without its challenges. With an estimated expenditure of around £400 on bus fares and an additional £1,600 for accommodation and meals, he has invested significantly in his exploration. ‘I invited my wife to join me, but she wasn’t particularly excited about the idea,’ he shared with a chuckle.

A Passion for Lists and Challenges

A lifelong fan of both buses and Boyes stores, Mr. Scandrett has found joy in crossing items off his list, likening his adventure to trainspotting. ‘I thought, why not challenge myself? With 81 Boyes stores to visit, it seemed like the perfect adventure,’ he explained. His journey has included a few hiccups, such as a missed bus that led to an unexpected £70 taxi ride.

Giving Back to the Community

In a heartwarming gesture, Mr. Scandrett has made it a point to purchase a packet of wildflower seeds from each store he visits. His plan is to distribute these seeds to local schools upon his return, fostering a sense of community and environmental awareness.

Looking Ahead: New Goals

As his current quest draws closer to completion, Mr. Scandrett has already set his sights on a new endeavor: visiting every Scottish football league stadium. With an insatiable curiosity and a passion for exploration, he continues to inspire those around him with his unique approach to life.
