A Unique Show: The Altarpiece of Sant Llorenç in Sant Feliu

A Magical Night in Sant Feliu de Llobregat

Next Saturday, October 5, at 8:30 p.m., the Plaça de la Vila de Sant Feliu de Llobregat will become a vibrant scene with the premiere of the Sant Llorenç Altarpiece. This performance, which will involve more than 480 participants, promises to be an unforgettable experience for attendees, with a show that will fuse music, poetry and visual art.

A Deep Message Through History

The Altarpiece is not only an artistic representation, but also conveys a message of social commitment, inspired by the words of Saint Lawrence: ‘This is the true wealth of the Church’. Salvador Obiols, director of the Laurentius Foundation, explains how this idea has taken shape in the diocese of Sant Feliu, reflecting the values of solidarity and hope that characterize our community.

The Origins of a Great Initiative

The genesis of this project goes back a few years, when Joan Torras i Viver was inspired by the sacramental act of the Jedermann in Salzburg. This experience ignited the desire to narrate the history of Sant Llorenç and its connection with the city, celebrating the 500 years of the parish and the 20 years of the cathedral as an episcopal seat.

An Impressive Scenery

The Retaule stage, with dimensions of 28 x 10 metres, will be designed to transport the audience to different scenes, each with its own music that will enrich the visual and emotional experience of the performance.

A Diverse and Passionate Cast

The play’s cast is a reflection of the community, with amateur actors from the theater company ‘Enric Borràs’, including a young actress of only 11 years who will make her debut in the role of Montserrat. The involvement of the local population, which includes both extras and popular culture groups, will make this performance a true tribute to collective identity.

A Reflection of Current Society

El Retaule seeks to draw a parallel between the martyrdom of Sant Llorenç and the realities of the new forms of poverty we face today, such as immigrants and vulnerable families. Caritas, with its dedication, exemplifies this commitment to those most in need, reminding us that we all have a role to play in building a fairer society.

An Event That May Repeat

It is expected that the Altarpiece can be represented every four or five years, in order to maintain its essence and impact. The idea is that each edition is a reminder of the value of solidarity and unity that the Festa Major de Sant Llorenç represents.

Participation and Access to the Altarpiece

Everyone is invited to be a part of this event. With 1,000 seats available, attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good spot, given the interest this show has generated.
