Sustainable development and energy efficiency
During 2023, the Pere Tarrés Foundation has worked on several initiatives to promote sustainable development and energy efficiency in its colony houses. The aim is to reduce the impact on the environment and be energy efficient. These actions include the installation of mechanisms that favor sustainability and the production of renewable energy.
Photovoltaic solar energy
The Foundation has installed photovoltaic panels in several hostels and boarding houses. These solar panels have been installed in the La Conreria, La Sala and Pere Tarrés hostels, as well as in the La Ruca and Artur Martorell hostels. In total, 503 photovoltaic production panels have been installed, representing a peak production of 230 kw/h.
Improved thermal insulation
To reduce energy consumption, shutters have been installed on the windows of several buildings. This action improves the thermal insulation of buildings and saves energy. Insulation elements have been installed in the Pare Artigues, Santa Maria del Roure and La Conreria hostel.
Impact on sustainability
With these actions, the Pere Tarrés Foundation seeks to reduce its ecological footprint and contribute to sustainability. The annual energy consumption of its colony houses and hostels is 1,225,000 kw, and with the new solar installations, 25% of this energy will come from renewable sources. If we only take into account the 5 colony houses with photovoltaic panels, this percentage increases to 40%.
Pedagogical resources and awareness
The Foundation will use the new energy efficiency facilities as a teaching resource to raise children’s awareness of the importance of sustainability and the fight against climate change. They are developing educational material to teach children the benefits of photovoltaic energy.
Albert Riu, director of the Pere Tarrés Foundation’s Holiday Camps Service, highlights the importance of these improvements to promote consistency between educational proposals and equipment management.
