An administrative assistant convicted of theft of funds

The Provincial Court of Burgos has handed down a conviction against an administrative assistant of the Territorial Management of Social Services of Burgos, dependent on the Government of Castilla y León. The accused has been sentenced to six years and one day in prison for the crimes of document falsification and misappropriation. The sentence is final and will not be appealed by any of the parties involved.

The accused worked in the Child Protection Section

The convicted person worked as an administrative assistant in the Child Protection Section of the Territorial Management of Social Services. Among his responsibilities was the management of the bank accounts of the minors under guardianship, as well as the filing of files. However, during the period between 2012 and 2016, the accused carried out a series of fraudulent actions.

Document falsification and misappropriation

According to the facts proven in the sentence, the convicted person forged receipts, simulating the signature of the managers, to withdraw cash from the bank accounts of six minors who were or had been under the guardianship of the Board. In total, he stole an amount of 34,162.28 euros. However, the Junta de Castilla y León has proceeded to return said amount to those affected, increased by 10% as established in the ruling.

Conviction and additional sanctions

The Provincial Court has sentenced the accused to six years and one day in prison for the crimes of document falsification and misappropriation. In addition, a fine of 30 months at a rate of 10 euros per day is imposed. Likewise, he is disqualified from public employment for six years and one day.
