Alcoy will host an animation festival with a focus on Gaza

A cultural event of great reach

From November 20 to 24, the city of Alcoi will become the center of entertainment with the celebration of a new edition of the Animalcoi festival. This event promises to be a dynamic platform for creativity, with a program that includes lectures, exhibitions and film screenings.

Inauguration and notable awards

The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m., in the auditorium of IVAM CADA Alcoi. One of the highlights of the festival will be the Animalcoi Awards, with the participation of 68 short films from 16 different nations. The awards include the Animalcoi-Solitium Award for Best International Short Film and the recently established Fundación Mutua Levante Award for Best National Short Film, with a total of 4,500 euros in prizes.

Premieres and screenings

Among the films that will be released, ‘Sauvages’, ‘Memoirs of a Snail’, ‘Mariposas Negras’ and ‘Flow’ stand out, the latter with an impressive list of four awards at the Annecy Festival and its screening at Un Certain Regard in Cannes.

A special cycle dedicated to Gaza

One of the most exciting novelties of this edition is a cycle of short films portraying life in Gaza. Palestinian artist Haneen Koraz has been working with children and mothers in the region, creating films documenting their experiences in a difficult context.

Opportunities for professionals in the sector

The festival will also offer networking spaces for professionals, including the ‘Pitch’, where eight projects from various parts of Spain will be presented. In addition, there will be a business meeting called ‘Animalcoi Pro’, with the participation of ten French companies looking to collaborate with Spanish companies. The AIJU Technological Institute will present the latest technological innovations in video games and interactive applications.

Prominent personalities in the animation scene

Animalcoi will bring together nearly 50 prominent figures in animation, including producer Chelo Loureiro, responsible for great successes in animated cinema, as well as director Abraham López, known for his blockbuster ‘Guardian of Dragons’. There will also be space for new emerging voices such as ‘Rafillo’, creator of the ‘Querida Conchi’ series.

A festival with institutional support

Animalcoi is organized by the Association for the Development of Art and Design of the Art School of Alcoi, with the support of several institutions, including the Alcoi City Council, the Provincial Council of Alicante and the ‘Valencian Institute of Culture. This collaboration reinforces the importance of animation as a form of art and culture in the region.
