Alert for the arrival of an extreme heat wave in Spain

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) issues a special warning

In the last few hours, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a special warning due to the imminent arrival of an extreme heat wave in Spain. This meteorological phenomenon, characterized by significantly high temperatures, is expected to affect several parts of the country in the coming days.

Impact on public health and other sectors

This extreme heat wave can have a considerable impact on public health, agriculture and other sectors. Authorities have urged the population to take precautions, especially among the most vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and people with chronic illnesses.

Temperature forecasts

According to AEMET, temperatures are expected to be significantly higher than usual for this time of year. The most affected areas will be the southern half and the northeastern quadrant of the Peninsula. From Thursday 18, temperatures can exceed 38°C and reach 40-44°C in some areas, such as the Guadiana, Tajo, Ebre and Guadalquivir valleys.

Peak of the heat wave

The most intense day of the heat wave will be Friday 19, when temperatures above 40°C will spread to the aforementioned areas. High temperatures are also expected in the northern plateau and the interior of Mallorca, reaching 36-38°C.

Minimum temperatures and subsequent changes

During this heat episode, minimum temperatures will also be high, not falling below 24°C in large areas of the southeast and other areas of the southern peninsula and depressions in the northeast. From Saturday the 20th, a drop in temperatures is expected on the peninsular Atlantic side due to the arrival of a cooler Atlantic air mass, although temperatures will remain quite high, especially east of the peninsula
