Celebration of technological creativity
This Saturday, the city of Igualada hosted the eighth edition of the First Lego League, a competition that has brought together around 200 young students in primary and secondary school students in different corners of Catalonia. With the intention of promoting learning through technology, participants have presented the robots they themselves designed and built during the school year.
TRIOMF I RECOGNITION
The winning team of the Ingeniera Soy Award has been ‘Nanoverc’s’, from the Vedruna Sant Sadurní school. In addition to receiving a trophy made of Lego pieces, a place in the grand final state will be secured to be held in Galicia at the end of March.
Oceanic theme
This year’s competition has revolved around the ‘submerged’ challenge, which has urged teams to explore and innovate in solutions related to the oceans and their ecosystems. Young people have applied their skills in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (Steam) to develop their prototypes.
Different categories and wide participation
During the morning, 16 teams have competitive in shifts. The Challenge category, for young people from 10 to 16 years old, has gathered participants from various locations such as Alp, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, and Rubí. The Explore category, which includes children between the ages of 6 and 9, has seen the participation of a family team in Cerdanya.
An international program
The FIRST LEGO League, which has been present in Igualada for the last eight years, is part of a global educational program that was born in the United States with the aim of fostering scientific and technological interest among young people. Each year, participants face a thematic challenge that challenges them to identify and solve real world problems.
Recognition and premises
The prizes given during the day include categories such as the Robot Design Award, which was for the Oceanics Innovators team, and the Prize for Excellence in Engineering, which went to the P.A.T. Team of the Institut de Montbui.
Institutional and Community Support
The competition was attended by prominent academic and political authorities, including the Mayor of Igualada, Marc Castells, who expressed the pride of the city to host this event, as well as the importance of initiatives that foster technological vocations among young people.

Sergio Sayago, director of the FIRST LEGO League in Igualada, emphasized the successful organization of the event, while Carles Capdevila, delegate of the rector of the UdL, emphasized the relevance of the previous efforts of the participants in the schools.
