One night of music and passió
On February 24, the Auditorium hosted an exceptional concert by the Cologne WDR Symphony Orchestra, with the participation of the renowned cellist Pablo Ferrández and the direction of the talented Andrés Orozco-Estrada. This performance, part of the Ibercamera season, stood out for a program that included emblematic works by Beethoven, Schumann and Tchaikovsky, showing a perfect communion among artists.
Beethoven: a triumphant start
The concert began with the shocking Egmont opening, Op. 84, by Beethoven. Orozco-Estrada guided the orchestra with impressive mastery, combining a dramatic force with moments of lyrical delicacy. Its direction made each instrument, especially those of wood wind, shine with exceptional clarity, creating a vibrant interpretation that reflected the heroism of Goethe’s work.
Schanan: A Sublim Music
Pablo Ferrández then assumed the role of soloist with the cello concert in the minor, op. 129 of Schumann. This piece, loaded with deep emotions, was performed with a fluidity that seemed to join Ferrández and Orozco-Estrada in a single heart. Its interpretation was not heavy, but it lit up with delicate lyricism, with a velvety sound that captivated the audience. The second movement was a moment of pure beauty, with an exquisite dialogue between the soloist and the first cello of the orchestra.
Txaikovski
The symphony that culminated in the evening was Symphony no. 5 In my minor, op. 64 of Tchaikovsky. Orozco-Estrada showed his skill as director, painting sound with a palette rich in nuances and emotions. This interpretation was intense and passionate, devoid of excessive sentimentalisms. Each crescendo was built carefully, generating a dynamic that kept the audience in a state of constant anticipation.
A Dialogue between Instruments
Andante Cantabile with Alcuna Licenza presented himself with a special inspiration, with a charming dialogue between the horn and the clarinet, which was followed by a rope accompaniment that flowed to the oboe. The way Orozco-Estrada was moving gracefully, like a dancer, as he directed, he added an impressive visual dimension to his direction.
Conclusion: An unforgettable musical experience
The concert was a demonstration of the power of the Cologne WDR orchestra, which shone with extraordinary musical talent. The Orozco-Estrada baton became the magic tool that transformed music into a dreamlike experience, leaving the audience with a sense of wonder and inspiration. This performance was, without a doubt, a musical journey that will last in the memory of all the attendees.
