APPEC expresses its disagreement with the denial of permission to install the Magazine in Barcelona

The refusal of the Barcelona city council

The Association of the Periodical and Specialized Press in Catalonia (APPEC), which represents the editors of magazines in Catalan, has expressed its disagreement with the decision of the Barcelona city council to deny them permission to install the Revisteria, a caravan that they have used for some time. three years to promote its catalog of magazines throughout Catalonia.

According to APPEC, they requested permission to locate the caravan in the Plaza Comercial, in front of the Mercat del Born, but the Ciutat Vella district denied them permission, arguing that it is an unprecedented activity in the district, without territorial roots and not supported by any area or sector of the city council. In addition, they were pointed out that this is a private use of public roads, and that the city council limits as much as possible activities that are not of general interest.

Declarations of Germà Capdevila

Germà Capdevila, president of APPEC, described the situation as very serious, regretting that the capital of Catalonia prevents them from carrying out an activity that they have carried out throughout the country for three years. La Revisteria, a caravan from the seventies towed by a car, travels throughout Catalonia promoting magazines in Catalan.

Capdevila expressed his regret at the refusal of the Barcelona City Council, especially in a context where there have been cases of censorship of Catalan-language magazines in other towns, and coinciding with the cession of public space in Park Güell for a Louis Vuitton event. He stated that the entity will continue to defend the installation of the Revisteria in Barcelona, highlighting that it is significant that the capital of the country denies them this possibility despite having been well received in other towns.
