Arrest in Valencia: Man accused of assault in the US

Joint operation for the arrest

In an operation carried out in Valencia, a 45-year-old man of Spanish nationality has been arrested, after being accused of being responsible for the crime of raping an 11-year-old girl in the United States. The operation was carried out by the Civil Guard in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Research ongoing since 2018

Since 2018, the team dedicated to crimes against women and minors (EMUME) of Valencia has been collaborating with the international unit of the FBI, following a rogatory commission requested by the Attorney General’s Office of the Spanish State. During this period, their work has consisted of locating the alleged aggressor and collecting DNA samples that could link him to the minor’s case in the United States.

Suspect Identification

Thanks to the implementation of multiple operational devices, the agents were able to determine the identity of the fugitive, as well as his location. Several DNA samples were obtained, which were sent to the United States to be analyzed and used as evidence in the investigation being carried out by the FBI.

Positive results in DNA tests

The comparative DNA tests yielded affirmative results, thus confirming the detainee’s involvement in the charges attributed to him. As a result of these results, a new device was organized in July to carry out the capture of the man of Spanish nationality.

Serious charges in the United States

In the United States, he is charged with several charges, including predatory sexual assault of a minor, first-degree rape, and first-degree rape under forcible duress. The legal consequences of these crimes are severe and could lead to a life sentence.

Implications of a possible life sentence

The possibility of facing a sentence of life imprisonment occurs in these types of crimes in the United States. As it is an extradition case, the judicial process will be handled by the Central Court of Instruction number 5 of Madrid, where the necessary details for the delivery of the detainee to the North American authorities will be evaluated.

Types of crimes that carry a life sentence

There are various crimes in the United States that can result in a life sentence. In addition to aggravated rape cases, other crimes such as first-degree murder or kidnapping can also carry the same consequences, depending on the severity of the crime and the factors surrounding it.
