Police investigation

The National Police has arrested Guillermo Rodríguez, the lottery winner who reported on January 4 that he had been the victim of a robbery at gunpoint in his administration in Lamas de Prado, Lugo. In his complaint, Rodríguez stated that two hooded men took loot of approximately 400,000 euros.

Although initially the judge in charge of the case closed the investigation after finding no evidence of a crime in the lottery operator’s behavior, the National Police continued with the investigations. As a result, it has been discovered that Rodríguez planned the robbery with a couple of foreign origin, who have also been recently arrested in Madrid.

Suspicions and new evidence

From the beginning, the National Police had suspicions about Rodríguez’s version of the alleged robbery. Various clues, including the lottery operator’s behavior, led investigators to question his testimony. Although the judge provisionally dismissed the case due to lack of evidence, the Police continued with the investigation and finally managed to arrest the main person responsible for the robbery, Guillermo Rodríguez, as well as the couple who participated in the plan.

The arrest of the couple in Madrid precipitated the arrest of Rodríguez, who now faces charges for planning the robbery of his own lottery administration. The evidence presented by the National Police, including the lottery operator’s suspicious behavior, led the judge to reconsider her initial decision and allowed the arrest of those involved.

Research Conclusion

The judge in charge of the case concluded that there was insufficient evidence to charge Rodríguez and other people as perpetrators, accomplices or concealers of the robbery. In addition, she pointed out possible violations of the lottery seller’s right to defense during his statement at the police station. Based on these considerations, the judge decided to close the case and reject the measures requested by the Judicial Police.

Despite the judge’s decision, the National Police continued with the investigation and finally managed to arrest those responsible for the robbery. This case highlights the importance of a thorough police investigation to clarify the facts and ensure justice.
