Arrests for Car Battery Thefts in Figueres
The Mossos d’Esquadra have captured two individuals related to a series of thefts of car batteries in Figueres. The detainees, aged 23, 40 and 50, face charges of theft from inside vehicles and reception. The investigation was launched three weeks ago after an increase in the theft of batteries from vehicles parked on city streets was noticed.
Arrest of the Thief and the Buyer
The first arrested, 23 years old, was caught just after stealing a battery from a car parked on Carrer de la Closeta. The owners of the vehicle surprised him at the time of committing the theft. The second detainee, aged 40, was arrested for his relationship with the reception of the stolen batteries. The Mossos d’Esquadra sealed off the flat where the batteries were sold, but another individual, aged 50, tried to steal some after skipping the seal, and was arrested for the crimes of home invasion and theft.
Recovery of Batteries and Detainees’ Antecedents
In total, the police have recovered nine stolen batteries in Figueres, and one of them has already been returned to its owner. All three detainees have previous records and have appeared before the court of inquiry in Figueres’ guard duties.
