Barcelona celebrates diversity with an anti-racist message

A morning of celebration and commitment

Today, Barcelona hosted the Diverse City Meeting, a significant event that seeks to promote inclusion and respect among all the cultures that inhabit the city. Mayor Jaume Collboni was present, along with the Commissioner for Citizen Relations, Sara Belbeida, demonstrating institutional support for this initiative.

A space for social cohesion

Organized by the Municipal Immigration Council, the Trobada Ciutat Diversa is not just a party; it is an act of advocacy that seeks to build a more plural and united city. The main objective is to recognize diversity as a value and promote coexistence between citizens and the various entities that represent the immigrant community.

A strong message against racism

During his speech, Collboni expressed Barcelona’s intention to be a city that not only fights against racism, but actively positions itself as anti-racist. He stressed the importance of not only denouncing discrimination, but of acting against xenophobic attitudes which, unfortunately, are gaining strength again in various social areas.

A global forum for equality

The mayor announced that Barcelona will host the UNESCO Global Forum against Racism and Discrimination on December 10 and 11. More than 200 countries will participate, bringing diverse voices to create a more equal world. Collboni expressed his pride in representing a city that is committed to this cause.

A growing tradition

The Trobada Ciutat Diversa has become an essential annual event on the Barcelona calendar. With a constant increase in citizen and organization participation, the event has evolved to reflect the rich interculturality that defines the city. In addition, each year it addresses a specific theme that seeks to delve deeper into current challenges related to diversity.

A book dedicated to anti-racism

This year, the Meeting is part of the ‘Voices against racism’ campaign, an initiative of the City Council designed to promote debate and reflection on racial discrimination. The activities planned are focused on anti-racism, with the aim of raising awareness and mobilizing the community towards this cause.
