A new setting for the Christmas nativity scene
The edition of the Nativity scene in Barcelona for 2024 promises to be a renewed and captivating experience. In a significant change, the installation will leave behind the traditional Plaça de Sant Jaume to be located inside the magnificent City Hall. This transition will allow visitors to enjoy a more welcoming and intimate setting.
Dates and times to discover the magic of the nativity scene
The nativity scene will be open to the public from November 29 to January 5, 2025, with exceptions on designated dates such as December 25 and January 1, when it will be closed. The hours to visit this Christmas work of art are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and during weekends and holidays, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Design inspired by the sea and local culture
This year’s nativity scene, prepared by the Barcelona Nativity Association, will be characterized by a maritime aesthetic. It will present classic scenes such as the birth, the annunciation, and the Camí dels Reis, all accompanied by traditional figures, including the caganer. The installation will occupy a table of generous dimensions: eight meters wide, four deep and 70 cm high.
A poetic tribute
In addition, the nativity scene will pay tribute to the poet Joan Salvat-Papasseit, who found inspiration in the Moll de la Fusta, as well as the recent Copa América de vela, which has left its mark on the city.
Celebrations at the Palau de la Generalitat
As part of the festivities, the Palau de la Generalitat will also open its doors to the public. From December 16 to 20, you can visit a nativity scene and a Christmas carol in the Gothic Courtyard, from 5 to 9 p.m. In addition, on December 14 and 15, the Palau will be open from 12 to 8 p.m., offering a unique opportunity to explore this emblematic building.
A star of light to illuminate the square
To complete the festive atmosphere, Plaça de Sant Jaume will host a spectacular 20-pointed star of light, a joint initiative between Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat. In addition, you can enjoy an impressive light show that will illuminate the facades of the City Council and the Generalitat, with functions repeated every half hour between 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
