Barcelona North: A New Horizon for the Bus Station

Strategic Transformation of the Bus Station

Barcelona City Council has given the green light to an innovative plan to renovate Barcelona Nord Bus Station, a project that seeks to improve the quality of services and available spaces. This initiative, coordinated by Barcelona Municipal Services (BSM), represents an important step towards optimizing the experience of travellers.

A Unified Space for All

The plan includes the relocation of all services on the ground floor, with a centralized access for travelers on Carrer Nàpols. This new configuration will not only facilitate movement inside the station, but will also improve the interconnection with the metro and the Rodalies a Arc de Triomf.

Budget and Schedule

With a total budget of 10 million euros, of which 4.8 million come from the European Union’s Next Generation funds, the works are scheduled to begin at the end of this year, with the intention of completing the transformation in 2026, maintaining station activity throughout the process.

Improvements in Mobility and Accessibility

The goal of this renovation is to ensure smoother passenger traffic and a better experience for all users. The first lieutenant of the mayor and president of BSM, Laia Bonet, has highlighted the importance of this transformation to turn the station into a first-class mobility hub, which serves more than 2.6 million travelers annually.

Modern and Sustainable Spaces

In terms of architecture, the station will undergo a significant renovation, with more open spaces and new areas for waiting and catering. The gastronomic proposal will be expanded to include offers adapted to travelers’ preferences throughout the day, as well as a new offer on the facade that will connect the station with the city.

Environmental Commitment

In addition, the project will include a photovoltaic installation to cover part of the station’s energy consumption, reaffirming BSM’s commitment to sustainability and decarbonisation. All these improvements will be made respecting the uniqueness of the building, which is listed as a cultural asset of local interest.

A Promising Future

With these initiatives, Barcelona North Bus Station will not only become a more functional and accessible space, but will also strengthen its position as a hub for mobility in the city, contributing to a better experience for all the travelers
