Innovation in the Free Zone
The consortium of the Free Zone of Barcelona (CZFB) is leading a pioneering project that seeks to establish a reference laboratory in the field of connected driving. This effort focuses on the creation of a space that not only improves mobility, but also enhances urban roads.
Tests in a real environment
Today, the 3rd Street of the Industrial Polygon of the Free Zone has become a true test field. In this scenario, technical evaluations of a connected vehicle have been carried out, allowing to verify the operation of the installed infrastructure and validate the coverage of the 5G network.
Vehicle-infrastructure communication
The laboratory focuses on how cars can interact directly with road infrastructure, using advanced technologies such as 5G and vehicular communication (C-V2X). This approach aims to optimize traffic flow and minimize road risks.
Declarations of project leaders
Pere Navarro, special state delegate at the CZFB, has shared details about the functioning of this smart mobility system. According to Navarro, ‘the data of sensors, cameras and other devices translate into automatic messages that are sent to drivers, facilitating safer and more efficient decisions in real time’.
A more sustainable future
Navarro also stressed that District 4.0 is the ideal place for the development of this laboratory, stressing that technology integration can play a crucial role in reducing accidents and in the creation of a more sustainable transport system.
Vision of the future
Blanca Sorigué, general director of the CZFB, complemented Navarro’s statements by pointing out that District 4.0 is witnessing innovative projects that reflect the Ambition of the Consortium for leading the digital transformation in the industry. ‘The connected driving laboratory is a clear example of how we are building a more efficient and environmental future,’ said Sorigué.
Impact on the quality of life
These types of initiatives not only focus on technological improvement, but also have a significant impact on citizens’ quality of life, promoting a safer and more dynamic urban environment.
