Barcelona reaffirms its commitment to cultural inclusion

Mayor Collboni defends the continuity of cultural programs

In a press conference today, the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has made it clear that the municipal government will maintain all its projects, including the initiative of the Can Fabra Library. This statement comes after Collboni, in a pre -RAC1 interview, emphasized the importance of these innovative spaces that promote exchange with cities like Boston, New York and Los Angeles.

Commitment to international relations

Collboni reported that despite waiting for a response from the United States Embassy, the continuity of the programs is not directly dependent on the US government, but on the alliances that have been established with American cities.

The challenge of funding

The City Council recently received a notification from the American embassy referring to a Trump Government Order that prevents the funds for public projects from being intended for initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion. Collboni has criticized this ‘retrograde policy’, emphasizing that the amount in question, 20,000 euros, is negligible compared to the value of the programs to be maintained.

Libraries as pillars of equality

The mayor has defended the function of libraries as spaces that foster equality of opportunity and access to culture. “Libraries are exactly the opposite of what Mr. Trump proposes,” he said, emphasizing that these institutions are accessible to all, including 76,000 children who have enjoyed their activities.

Rejecting social division

Collboni has rejected Trump’s claims on the need to restrict access to certain populations. “What we do is guarantee that gender and social origin are not barriers to the professional development of anyone,” he concluded, reaffirming the City Council’s commitment to meritocracy and social inclusion.
