Strategic Investment in Accessibility
Calaf City Council has received financial support of 111,000 euros from the Department of Social Rights through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which is made possible by Next Generation EU funds. This investment is intended to improve access to citizen service spaces, with the aim of creating a more inclusive environment.
In addition to the funds received, the city council has contributed 33,108.12 euros of its own resources, bringing the total investment to 144,108.12 euros. This sum will be allocated to a series of reforms designed to facilitate access for all citizens.
Improvements in the City Hall
One of the first actions was the installation of a new automatic access door to the City Hall building, at a cost of approximately 5,000 euros (excluding VAT). This action is complemented by the construction of a ramp for people with reduced mobility, eliminating a step that represented an obstacle.
Interior renovations
The interior renovations have included the renovation of the flooring, replacing the terrazzo with stoneware, at a cost of 2,500 euros (excluding VAT). In addition, a new public service desk has been installed, equipped with a magnetic loop for people with hearing disabilities and adapted for use by citizens in wheelchairs, at a cost of 3,500 euros (excluding VAT).
Accessibility in hygiene services
One of the most important aspects has been the creation of an accessible bathroom on the ground floor, as previously there were no options adapted for users with special needs. This work has involved an investment of 10,000 euros (excluding VAT).
Adaptations to the Space Carmen Arrojo Maroto and Polysportiu
The improvements have not been limited to the City Hall; adaptations have also been made to the Espai Carmen Arrojo Maroto, which now houses the Espai Jove. An automatic door has been installed on the ground floor for a cost of 5,000 euros (excluding VAT) and a lift that allows access to the first floor, with a prior adaptation of the route and one of the doors, for a cost of 37,500 euros (excluding VAT).
Improvements in hygiene services
In addition, a new accessible bathroom has been built, as the current one did not meet accessibility requirements, at a cost of 10,000 euros (excluding VAT). The improvements have also been extended to the sports hall, where an external lift has been installed, with an estimated budget of 30,000 euros (excluding VAT).
Digitalization and Online Accessibility
As part of this accessibility initiative, improvements have been implemented to Calaf’s tourist websites. The portals www.turismecalaf.cat and www.portaaportacalaf.cat have been optimized for better perception, with textual alternatives, improvements in contrast and a more accessible hamburger menu.
Compatibility with assistive technologies
The modifications also include the addition of descriptive texts in the links, as well as improvements in compatibility with assistive technologies, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the city’s digital services.
A More Inclusive Future
With these reforms, Calaf positions itself as an example to follow in promoting inclusivity and accessibility, reflecting a firm commitment to improving the quality of life of all its citizens. These actions not only benefit those with disabilities, but also create a more comfortable environment for everyone.
