Calafell City Council has announced that by 2025, most taxes and fees will remain unchanged. However, the fee related to waste management will see a notable increase of 4.81%.
European Regulations and Necessary Adjustments
According to the town hall, this increase is a consequence of the European regulations which oblige to guarantee that the real costs associated with the collection, transport and treatment of waste are fully covered. Thus, the rate for residential waste collection will be the only one that will be adjusted, while the rate for commercial waste will remain as it is.

Ramon Ferré, the mayor, has emphasized that this decision is imperative to comply with current regulations. ‘We have been proactive in dealing with this situation for some time, so the increase that will be applied for next year is moderate compared to other municipalities that may experience drastic increases,’ he assured.
Comparison with Other Municipalities
The data provided by the City Council reveal that many other municipalities in the region of Camp de Tarragona and Baix Penedès will apply significant increases in their waste rates. For example, El Vendrell anticipates an increase of 82%, while La Canonja will reach up to 175%.

The mayor has commented that costs have increased considerably in recent times, which has made it necessary to update the rates. ‘We are working to adjust this increase in the fairest possible way for citizens, while maintaining the quality of services,’ concluded Ferré.
