A weekend of competition and fun
During the recent weekend, Castellví de la Marca has hosted an exciting competition that has placed this small municipality in the center of the state sports action. The Barcelona Master’s Degree in Roundnet, an emerging sport that fuses elements of tennis and volleyball, has transformed the La Múnia football field into a vibrant activity scenario.
What is the roundnet?
Roundnet, also known as Spikeball, is practiced between two two players’ formations, who compete to accumulate points by throwing a ball to a circular net. The goal is to make the opponent not return the ball after the first time. This dynamic, which requires skill and speed, has captivated the attention of many.
The decision of the City Council
A few months ago, the City Council of Castellví de la Marca received a request to host the tournament. The mayor, Eliseu Alegre, commented: “We were proposed the idea and, since it did not cost the municipality, we decided to accept it.” This decision has been a success, with a large number of participants who have energized the village.
Impuls of the Roundnet and the Community
More than one hundred players from various regions of Spain, as well as from countries such as Finland, Canada and Italy, were present, providing a new dimension to local sport and diversifying the activities of the weekend, coinciding with the break of sports competitions for Carnival.
The Futur del Roundnet
Ernest Cardona, representative of the Barcelona Roundnet Sports Club, expressed his satisfaction with the reception that the tournament had in Castellví de la Marca. “Roundnet is growing rapidly. It is a physically demanding sport, but accessible to everyone. ” He added that it was the first time that the Barcelona Master’s degree was held outside the capital, with future appointments scheduled in Mallorca and Lyon.
Activities for everyone
In addition to the tournament, a training session has been organized open to all residents, with two Roundnet tracks available for practice. The younger ones especially enjoyed this opportunity, becoming the protagonists of the event.
A new age for the Penedès
Xavier Cerezo, Councilor for Sports, emphasized the importance of this event for Castellví de la Marca, saying: “This is the first time that the Penedès has become a point of reference for Roundnet. We have seen that it is a great opportunity to present this sport, still unknown to many. “
With Barcelona, Valencia, Granada and Madrid as national references, as well as Finland, Canada and Italy internationally, Roundnet is taking strength. Its expansion outside the big cities is a key strategy for promotion.
