The Board takes action against the amnesty law

The Junta de Castilla y León, led by Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, has decided to present an appeal of unconstitutionality before the Constitutional Court in response to the recent amnesty law. The decision, announced by the Councilor of the Presidency, Luis Miguel González Gago, is framed within the position of the PP government, which considers that this law infringes fundamental rights.

Arguments against amnesty

In a public event in Medina del Campo, President Mañueco expressed his firm opposition to the amnesty, considering it a violation of equality between Spanish citizens. According to him, this law attacks the rule of law and creates unacceptable privileges for certain groups, resulting from an ‘exchange of votes’ that keeps President Sánchez in power.

The perspective of the Economy

Carlos Fernández Carriedo, Minister of Economy and Finance, reaffirmed the need for the appeal, arguing that the amnesty represents a covert alteration of the Constitution that affects the separation of powers. Carriedo stressed that the law discriminates between citizens based on their ideology, benefiting those who seek independence at the expense of those who defend legality.

Political and critical reactions

The announcement of the appeal has caused reactions within the PSOE. Luis Tudanca, general secretary of the PSOE in Castile and Leon, has criticized Mañueco for prioritizing the interests of the PP leadership instead of focusing on the needs of the citizens. Tudanca questioned whether this resource will provide solutions to local problems such as health, which currently presents serious challenges.

An intense political debate

With tensions growing between the different parties, the amnesty debate is becoming a hot topic in Castilla y León. The political divide reflects not only opposing views on the law, but also concern about the implications it may have on the social and legal fabric of the community.
