Catalan Solidarity Renew Forces: Great Recapte 2023

A Charity Event With a Large Reach

The Food Bank has kicked off its 16th edition of the Gran Recapte, an initiative that seeks to mobilize the community to collect essential food. With more than 2,000 collection points in Catalonia, 1,500 of them located in the province of Barcelona, citizens can contribute to the cause in supermarkets and local markets.

An Active Home in the Heart of Barcelona

The first day of the campaign began at the Mercat de la Sagrada Família, where a group of young volunteers from the Virolai School actively participated in the collection. This action not only symbolizes the unity of the community, but also encourages the commitment of the youngest to social needs.

Commitment to Vulnerable People

In a gesture of solidarity, the Food Bank will allocate 50% of the food collected to the victims of the recent disaster in the Valencian Community. However, the organization maintains its commitment to the 230,000 people in vulnerable situations in Catalonia, and calls on the population to contribute generously to this vital cause.

Barcelona Markets: Collection Centers

Six municipal markets in Barcelona have joined the event: Sagrada Família, Ninot, Santa Caterina, la Boqueria, Sants and Horta. Each market will have a local social entity to manage the donations, which will then be used to purchase fresh produce directly from the market.

What Products Are Needed?

With the slogan ‘Eat your excuses’, the campaign seeks to provoke reflection on the importance of solidarity. The foods most needed include milk, oil, rice, pasta, legumes, canned fish and meat, as well as baby products.

Financial Donation Options

In addition to the physical collection, citizens can also make financial donations until December 5 through the website granrecapte.org or through Bizum at 33596. This option allows everyone to participate, regardless of their ability to contribute food.

An Opportunity to Make a Difference

The Great Collection is not just a campaign to collect food; it is an opportunity to build a more supportive and committed society with those who need it most. Active community participation is key to ensuring that no one is left behind in times of difficulty.
