Catalonia as an engine of change: a commitment to funding

A firm commitment in the face of adversity

The President of the Government, Salvador Illa, has expressed his determination to maintain the financing agreements, despite the controversies that have arisen around the issue. In a recent interview with La Vanguardia, Illa made it clear that he will not be influenced by the rumors and that he will act with loyalty towards the investiture pacts with ERC and the Commons.

Catalonia: a key piece for Spain

The president emphasized that the financing agreement will not only benefit Catalonia, but will also have a positive impact on the Spanish economy as a whole. “We are looking for effective ways to implement this agreement; I know it will not be an easy task, but it is essential to adopt a constructive approach”, said Illa, inviting everyone to join forces for the Catalan cause.

The role of Catalonia in Spanish diversity

Illa highlighted Catalonia’s ability to contribute to the well-being of Spain, defending a vision of self-government that at the same time promotes the cohesion of a plural country. “A Catalonia that is actively involved in the improvement of a diversified and multi-national Spain is what we are looking for”, he said.

A financing model adapted to needs

The president has proposed a new funding model that provides Catalonia with the resources necessary to guarantee public services, always within the current legal framework and with a federal perspective. Illa has assured that the idea of federalism is perfectly in line with what is established in the Spanish Constitution.

The composition of the Government: an autonomous project

Regarding the structure of the Government, Illa has clarified that it does not contemplate the inclusion of ERC or the Commons in the executive, since the investiture agreements do not provide for this option. Currently, a Government “alone” is being considered, although it has stressed its fidelity to the pacts and has designated the two formations as “priority interlocutors”.

Amnesty Law: A Step Towards Reconciliation

In relation to Carles Puigdemont, Illa commented that each individual must answer for his actions and highlighted the need to apply the amnesty law quickly and effectively. “It is important that he can return to Catalonia just like the rest of the amnesties”, he concluded, underlining his intention to promote a climate of reconciliation.
