Beginning of the fishing period in Catalonia

From March 15, lovers of fishing for the common trout in Catalonia will enjoy the low mountain waters until August 31. In the case of the high mountain waters, the season will be launched on May 10, with the same date of completion.

Sustainable fishing and capture modalities

The practice of fishing has evolved over time, transforming a need for subsistence to a leisure and sports activity. New fishing techniques and arts, which seek to reduce environmental impact, promote capture without death, thus contributing to the conservation of aquatic species and to the fight against invasive species.

Economic impact of fishing

In addition to environmental implications, fishing is presented as an important pillar for the local economy, generating employment and opportunities in various communities.

Increased licenses and permissions for fishing

In 2024 it has seen a significant increase in the number of fishing licenses, with a total of 112,418, an increase of 3.3% over the previous year. Within this figure, the permits for continental fishing have reached 67,748, reflecting a growth of 1%.

Regulations on protected capture and species

The regulations state that up to three tortillas can be captured over 22 cm per day, except in genetic reserve areas, where the limit is two. In addition, two species of barbs have been classified as non -fishing for this season.

Conditions for eurihalines species

It will allow the capture of up to 5 kg of Eurihalines species in a specific area of the Ebro river. The minimum sizes for species such as the sea bass and the bream have been fixed to guarantee the sustainability of the populations.

Fight against invasive species

Exotic species are still a threat to biodiversity. All accidental catches of these species will be treated as invasive, prohibiting their return to water.

Fishing tools regulations

Only artificial baits will be authorized in controlled fishing areas without death, excluding the use of natural baits to protect the populations of salmonids.

Repopulation and its management

Trout repopulations in controlled areas will be carried out between March and September, with adjustments due to the recent climatic conditions that have affected the rivers.
