A new horizon for Justice in Tarragona

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Alícia Romero, marked a before and after in the history of Tarragona with her morning visit to the City Hall, where she revealed the final launch of the City of Justice project. This initiative, which has been a constant demand of citizens and institutions, will see its bidding started in March 2025, promising uninterrupted progress until its inauguration.

Budget increase and adaptation to current reality

Romero has shared that the budget for the new Tarragona Judicial Forum will increase significantly, from 70 million to more than 90 million euros. This decision responds to the necessary update of the costs derived from the increase in prices, in part to global consequences such as the war in Ukraine. The mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales, has expressed his support for this decision, although he has warned that the final amount may be subject to changes in the coming years.

Commitment to the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology

In addition, Romero has confirmed an investment of 5.3 million euros to move the headquarters of the Catalan Institute of Classical Archeology (ICAC) to Tabacalera, thus reinforcing the government’s commitment to culture and heritage.

Collaboration between institutions

The Minister’s visit was also an opportunity to ratify the commitments made in a previous meeting between Viñuales and the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, as well as with the Councilor of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau. Viñuales emphasized that this positive relationship between the City Council and the Ministry of Economy is fundamental for the development of key projects in the city.

Tarragona, a cultural landmark

Romero has highlighted the importance of Tarragona as a city with a rich history and a leadership role in the territory. He has expressed the Government’s desire to collaborate closely with the town councils to develop initiatives such as the City of Justice and the relocation of the ICAC.

Looking to the future

With a view to the next budget, resources are foreseen for the drafting of the project of the City of Justice. Romero has assured that the Government will continue to provide funding until its tender and final construction. After the meeting, the councilor and the mayor visited the Catalan Chemical Research Institute (ICIQ-CERCA) to participate in the BASF-ICIQ awards ceremony.
