The inaugural event, which will take place at 10am on Saturday at the Upper Funicular Station, will be a special moment to commemorate the centenary of this emblematic means of transport. The Minister of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, Sílvia Paneque, and the Mayor, Lluís Valls, will be present to pay tribute to the importance of the Funicular in the history of Gelida.
A Gastronomic Journey Started Previously
Before the official opening, visitors will be able to enjoy an exceptional gastronomic offer that will start on Friday at the Pista Jardí de la Unió del Casal Gelidenc. This culinary experience will highlight local produce, wines and cavas, all in a festive atmosphere that promises to attract residents and visitors alike.
Unmatched Views from the Heights
One of the most exciting attractions of this edition will be the possibility of flying in a balloon. Participants will be able to soar above Gelida and admire the picturesque landscapes of the Penedès, with flights scheduled for Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, an activity that will undoubtedly add an unforgettable memory to the celebration.
Activities for the Whole Family
La Funifira is not limited to gastronomy and balloon flights; it offers a wide range of activities designed to entertain all members of the family. Thus, you can enjoy exhibitions of model railways, Playmobil and Lego meetings, as well as robotics and aeromodelling workshops, guaranteeing fun and learning.
Rediscovering Local History
A special exhibition entitled ‘100 years of the Funicular’ will be on show at Espai 1880, where attendees will be able to explore the rich history and meaning of this transport that has been fundamental to Gelida’s identity over the years.
Sports and Music: A Weekend Full of Energy
The fun will continue with a varied sports program that includes the traditional Padel Tournament, the 8th Photo Rally and the Funimetreda. The music will not be left behind, with performances by the Big Band of the Municipal School of Music of Gelida and a lively ‘tardeo’ session on Saturday night, which will feature DJ Oriol Tió and Disco Jangar.
A Tribute to the Geliden Identity
Marc Rodriguez, Councilor for Tourism, emphasizes that ‘this edition of the Funifira is not just a celebration; it is a tribute to our heritage. The Funicular, although currently stopped for technical reasons, remains the heart of this event. We invite everyone to join us in this weekend full of activities and rediscover the magic of Gelida.’
