Celebrate the Festes del Pilar in La Font Vella: Tradition and Fun

Festivities in full splendor

The Font Vella neighborhood is transformed every year during the Pilar festival, offering a vibrant experience for residents and visitors. The activities, which will run until October 19, promise a mix of tradition and fun.

A Triumphant Start

On Friday, October 11, the festivities begin with a ringing of bells in the churches of Santa Maria and del Roser, followed by a spectacular launch of rockets that will mark the beginning of the celebrations.

Parade and Gresca

At 19:30, the parade will bring together giants from the neighborhood, who invite everyone to participate, both those who have giants and those who want to join the party with the grallers of the Associació Cultural Dessota. The day will culminate with the traditional Gresca and dinner al fresco in Plaça Pius XII, where attendees can enjoy a typical Igualada meal for just €15.

Activities for Everyone

Saturday 12 October will start with the matinees of the Grallers School of Sitges, followed by the solemn mass in the Basilica of Santa Maria. The day will also include a musical vermouth with the Swing Engine Sweet Trio and a children’s show in Plaza Pius XII.

Puntaires tradition

On Sunday 13 October, the XXXII Pointer’s Day will take place, where pointers from all over Catalonia will gather to show their art. As a gift, each participant will receive a cake and a bottle of water, and the City Council will present them with a special detail.

Concerts and Celebrate the Gospel

Music will also play a key role in the festivities, with a gospel concert by the Igualada Gospel Choir at the Roser Church on Sunday at 7pm, with limited seating to ensure an intimate experience.

Holiday closing

The celebration will end on Saturday 19 October with the 28th Mercat de la Puça, where the neighborhood’s shops will take to the streets to offer special discounts and promotions. This will also include a flea market, encouraging residents to trade in items they no longer use.

An Opportunity for the Community

The Pilar festivities in La Font Vella are a perfect occasion to strengthen community ties, enjoy local culture and celebrate traditions that unite generations. An event that not only highlights the cultural richness of the neighborhood, but also fosters a sense of belonging among its inhabitants.
