A space of community impact
March 20, 1995 was a significant date for the city of Igualada, with the inauguration of the Civic Center of Fatima, a place that has evolved to become a fundamental pillar for the community. At present, this facility celebrates three decades of existence, consolidating itself as a nucleus of educational, healthy and leisure activities.
The trajectory of the center
Miquel Vives, Councilor for Entities of the City Council of Igualada, recently shared the trip of the Civic Center, highlighting its growth since its inception, when it only offered 15 activities per quarter. Today, the number of activities has multiplied, exceeding 120 diverse proposals that attract a wide spectrum of users.
A reference space for citizenship
Vives emphasized that the Fatima Civic Center has managed to become an essential meeting place, where Igualadins can interact and establish social bonds. This space not only offers training and physical activity, but also promotes an active community.
Adaptation and resilience during pandemic
The Covid-19 pandemic presented a remarkable challenge, but the center did not surrender. Instead of stopping, he innovated and implemented a virtual model that allowed thousands of participants to continue enjoying their activities. The celebration of the 25th anniversary was a clear example of this adaptability, with online events that included dance classes and shared celebrations.
Successful statistics
In the last four years, more than 2,165 people have participated in the activities of the center, and thousands more have attended exhibitions and conferences, confirming the impact and relevance of this space into the community.
Festival to remember
To commemorate this historical milestone, on Saturday, March 22, various events will be held that promise to be a reflection of the diversity and inclusivity of the center. The day will begin with a popular chocolate, organized by the Casal d’Avis de Fatima, followed by a craft workshop for all ages.
Shows and gastronomy
At 12 noon, attendees will enjoy the show ‘De own harvest’, with performances by local dance groups. The celebration will culminate in parliaments and a blowing of candles, accompanied by a popular vermouth. In addition, a popular rice dish, organized by the Brotherhood of Fatima, promises a memorable gastronomic experience.
A promising future
With the participation of Pep’Si Band to close the festivities, the Civic Center of Fatima not only celebrates its past, but also looks towards the future with the aim of continuing to be a dynamic and integrative space for all the citizens of Igualada.
