Celebration of creativity: 2023 Window Awards

Recognize literary talent

On Tuesday, March 4, the Finestres Foundation was the scene of a long -awaited gala, where four prizes were given to published works, highlighting the narrative in Catalan and Spanish, as well as two awards for comics creators. Each prize has a financial endowment of 25,000 euros, except one of the comic books, which is aimed at young people under 35 and offers 15,000 euros.

Expectations and rumors at the entrance

At the entrance to the event, Ferran Grau, one of the nominated writers, was seen as he shared a cigarette with his publisher, Rosa Rey. Although the official news would not be made public until nine in the evening, the presence of degree seemed to suggest that his novel ‘Hyperràbia’ would be the winner of the Catalan Narrative Prize.

Competition between nominated works

Among the other works that competed in the category of narrative in Catalan were ‘Horse, athlete, bird’ by Manuel Baixuali and ‘Marxarons’ by Cristina Masanés. With other recent prizes behind you, such as the Òmnium Prize for Baixauli and the City of Barcelona Award for Masanés, the Victory of Degree seemed more and more likely.

A diverse and committed jury

The prizes have renowned juries, each with their own criteria. The Jury of Narrative in Catalan, chaired by Marina Espasa, includes names such as Anna Guitart and Pere Antoni Pons. The category of narrative in Spanish is led by Camila Enrich, while Octavi Botana heads the jury of the comic books.

Comic Awards: Innovation and New Voices

The presentation of the winners in the comic book category was a prominent time. Giulia Sargamola, with his project ‘Forward’, and Uxía Larrosa, with ‘The detachment’, were recognized for their unique and innovative voices in the world of comics.

Stories that reviewed

‘Forward’ explores the expectations and anxieties of the entrance to thirty, while ‘detachment’ addresses the loss of identity through a surreal premise.

A meal that unites

After an intense day, attendees enjoyed an exquisite meal in the winemaker, with a selection of artisan cheeses and natural wines. The conversation flowed between journalists and publishers, with Ferran Grau sharing his vision on how to invest the prize money.

The gala: an unforgettable event

As the gala began, attendees met to celebrate the winners. The room, full of literary professionals, vibrated with the energy of jazz music and the excited voices of the winners. The President of the Jury, Camila Enrich, emphasized the importance of recognizing and rewarding talent in a context of inequality.

Reflections of a winner

Ferran Grau, in his speech, reflected on his literary journey during the confinement, remembering the difficult times and his passion for writing. His sincerity resonated with the attendees, who eagerly awaited Aira’s words, another of the winners.

A future full of promises

With a celebration marked by joy and creativity, the Finestres Foundation reaffirms its commitment to literature and art, hinting a promising future for the emerging voices of the literary landscape.
