A tribute to neighborhood history
On March 7, Reus is preparing for a special celebration in honor of women who have left a significant imprint on the city’s neighborhood movement. Within the framework of International Women’s Day, the City Council will organize a commemorative event at 5.30 pm in the Plenary Hall, where the fundamental role of women in the construction of the community will be recognized.
Voices of the neighborhood movement
During the event, four prominent representatives of the La Pastor Neighborhood Association will read an institutional statement. This group, made up of women, includes figures such as Puri Flores Moreno, president; Ana Feli Heredia Garcia, Vice President; Angeli Jiménez Ramos, treasurer; and Puri Navais Flores, vocal, who have been pillars in the defense of neighborhood rights.
Recognize the pioneers
A highlight of the event will be the recognition of the thirty-five women who have been the presidents of neighborhood associations in Reus from 1968 to the present. Among them, eight women who have made a substantial difference in this area will be special.
Women who have inspired
Among the honorees are figures such as Teresa Escoda Badia, a pioneer co -founded by AV Juroca, and Carme Alumà Borràs, who has maintained an active commitment to his community. Other notable names include Ana Belén Castaño Sánchez, Carmina Pozuelo Blanco and Maria del Mar Escoda Serres, all with a story of involvement and leadership.
A book as a legacy
At the end of the ceremony, the first volume of the collection ‘Women References of Reus’, entitled’ Neighbors, on the street ”, will be published, prepared by historians Isabel Martínez and Carme Puyol. This book not only honors the women involved in the neighborhood movement, but will also be made available to the public with 500 printed copies and a digital version accessible to the City Council’s website.
Future and accessibility
The initiative does not stop here; Each year a new volume dedicated to women referents will be published, with the second planned for 2026, focusing on contributions to the field of health. In addition, a system with QR code will be installed in front of neighborhood entities to facilitate access to the history of these women.
Inspire future generations
With these efforts, the City Council seeks to inspire the young people of Reus and foster knowledge of the female figures who have contributed to society. This tribute serves as a reminder of the importance of active participation of women in public and community life.
