Celebration of International Women’s Health Day in the Conca d’Odena

A collective initiative for female health

The Equality Councils of the Commonwealth of the Conca d’Odena have launched an ambitious agenda of activities to commemorate the International Day of Action for the Health of Women, which will be held on May 28. This proposal includes almost twenty acts designed to foster awareness and reflection on female health and will be carried out in several municipalities in the region.

Varied and inclusive activities

The scheduled activities, which will take place between May 20 and June 30, will be developed in seven locations: Igualada, Vilanova del Camí, Montbui, Òdena, La Pobla de Claramunt, Jorba and Castellolí. These actions seek to make visible gender inequalities in the health sector and to promote issues of interest to women of all ages.

Key themes

The weeks of activities offer a space for dialogue on various topics, including health, sexuality, menstruation and the benefits of physical activity. Participants will be able to explore concepts of self -care and healthy habits, with the aim of creating bonds between women and fostering sorority.

Prominent events

The agenda includes a diversity of events, such as book presentations, conferences, workshops and exhibitions. One of the highlights will be the presentation of the book ‘The sex of the Madres’ by the author Sonia Encinas, who will take place in Santa Margarida de Montbui. In addition, a class of Barre in Vilanova del Camí is offered and a talk on welfare during menopause in La Pobla de Claramunt.

Workshop on body image

In Igualada, the workshop ‘Body shame (and pressure on the bodies)’ will be held on Thursday, May 29 at the North Civic Center. This activity will have free kangaroo service for participants who request it in advance.

New Emotional Support Group

One of the most significant novelties is the creation of the group ‘Tools and resources for the management of emotional backpacks’. Open to all women in the Conca d’Odena, this group seeks to provide a safe space to share and relieve emotional loads. The sessions will be held between June 2 and 30, and those interested can register through the telephone 667 903 732.

Institutional support

The agenda of activities, coordinated by the Commonwealth of the Conca d’Odena, has the support of the Diputació de Barcelona and the Department of Equality and Feminism of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The full programming can be consulted on the Commonwealth website.
