Celebration of the 175 years of the Realistic Filà: a trip in time

A surprising birthday

In 2025 it marks an emblematic moment for the Filà Realistas, which celebrates its 175th anniversary. It was initially believed that its foundation dates back to 1886, but recent research has revealed that the roots of this row are in the distant 1850.

The story of the cavalry

The rows, like the realists and the Berberiscos, are the last representatives of an era in which the festivities of Alcoy were dominated by the ‘cavalry’. These groups, despite their cultural wealth, suffered restrictions compared to the other rows, limiting their participation in key events such as Thunder Day.

A journey of research

The effort of Francisco Fernando Simón Marín and Jorge Baños Vañó has been instrumental in discovering the true story of the Realista row. Although they did not enjoy the same rights until 1926, their origins go back to a previous date, revealing a rich and complex story.

The consolidation of an identity

In 1842 it marks the initial approval of the ‘Caballeria de Moors’, a name that would evolve over time. It is not until 1850 that the Filà began to be formally recognized, with the figure of Rafael Miró Pastor as general, who would play a key role in consolidating.

The nomenclator and theories

The ‘realistic’ denomination has generated several theories. Some believe that it comes from the nickname one of the generals, while others point to the influences of the Moroccan militia. Historical documents, such as the chronicles of ‘Los Domingos de Abril’, already documented this nomenclature in 1886.

An evolutionary legacy

One of the most significant testimonies comes from Joan Valls Jordà, who in a poem dedicated to the Filà in 1970, emphasizes that its history extends beyond 100 years. These reflections emphasize the importance of recognizing the true moment of foundation of the Filà, which goes back to 1850.

Preparations for the celebration

At the age of 175 on the horizon, the Realistic Filà is preparing for a memorable celebration. With its badge blue pants and a shield that stands out a horse, they have organized a series of events to share their history with the Alcoy community, including special surprises for the day of the entrance and the Diana of Cavallet.

Looking to the future

As the Realistic Filà prepares for this significant moment, the impact of its history endures. In 2026, La Filà will also commemorate the centenary since it became a Filà of Infantry, thus consolidating its place in the rich tradition of the festivities of Alcoy.
