A tribute to the legend of Catalan music
On Monday, May 12, the Marshall Academy, formerly known as the Granados Academy, marked the beginning of the Conxita Badia Year, dedicated to the soprano remembered that left an indelible imprint on Catalan music. This event was attended by prominent figures such as Montserrat Bonet, Neta de Badia, Alicia Torra, daughter of the pianist Alicia de Larrocha, and Mònica Pagès, a biographer of the two artists.
Commemorative activities throughout the year
To commemorate this emblematic figure, various activities have been scheduled throughout the year. This May, attendees will be able to participate in a round table entitled “Conxita Badia: a lyric bridge between Catalonia and America” on Thursday 15 at 19h, followed by a conference on Badia’s cultural influence on Tuesday 20, and a concert dedicated to his work on Thursday 22 at 8pm.
Granados: The mentor who discovered Badia’s talent
Mònica Pagès recalled during the round table that Enric Granados was not only a remarkable pianist, but also a true pillar of the music world. His academy became a nucleus of cultural creativity and exchange, as can be seen through the portraits that decorate his current hallway in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi.
The first step toward success
From a young age, Badia was directed to Granados, who quickly identified his extraordinary talent during a solfeo exam. With him, he perfected his abilities as much as a singer and a pianist, emphasizing his ability to interpret poetry with impeccable diction.
A musical legacy that endures
After the death of Granados in 1916, Badia became one of his most fervent defenders, creating spaces such as the Camarote Granados, an emblematic place for musicians and admirers. His relationship with Alicia de Larrocha was special, marked by a mutual admiration that transcended time.
Reflections on music and life
De Larrocha shared a reflection on Badia, describing his musical intuition as the only one and his ability to inspire others. Interviews, in interviews, expressed his vision on singing as an extension of life, emphasizing the importance of technique and expressiveness.
A musical route for history
Badia’s career remained unchanged even during the Civil War, when she sought refuge in Paris with the help of Ventura Gassol. There, he continued to act, traveling around Europe and beyond, and finally returned to Barcelona in 1947, where he was enthusiastically received at the Palau.
The impact of recordings
During the round table, attendees enjoyed Badia recordings, including a collaboration with Larrocha, who resonated his musical legacy. His words about the importance of the voice, technique and passion for music resonated strongly among those present.
