Changes in municipal rates: Electric vehicles and new costs in Granollers

by PREMIUM.CAT

A New Era for Electric Vehicles

From January 1, 2025, owners of electric vehicles in Granollers will have to face a new reality: parking in the blue zone will no longer be free. They will now have to pay 50% of the stipulated fees, a change that marks a significant shift in parking policies for these sustainable vehicles.

The Reasons Behind the Change

The decision to remove the free charge was driven by Granollers Primàries, which argued that owners of electric vehicles, which are often more expensive than combustion ones, have the financial capacity to face parking costs. This measure was approved in a municipal plenary session with the support of the PSC and ERC, while other groups such as the PP and Vox opposed the initiative.

Restructuring of the Blue Zone

Another significant change is the simplification of the blue zone. The old zones A and C disappear, leaving a single zone A with higher rates. This measure seeks to standardize prices and facilitate the management of parking in the city.

Increase in Fees for Financial Institutions

Granollers has also decided to increase the fee paid by financial institutions to have ATMs on public roads, from 214 euros to 267.5 euros per linear meter occupied. Joan Ricart, spokesman for Granollers Primàries, expressed that this increase, despite being a step forward, is not enough.

Impact on the Community

Martí Pujadas, Deputy Councilor of Finance, warned about the possible shortage of ATMs in certain neighborhoods, stressing the need to find a balance between collection and service to the community.

Increase in Municipal Taxes

Municipal rates and taxes will be adjusted in line with the CPI, with a 3% increase in Real Estate Tax (IBI) and a 2.73% increase in Economic Activity Tax (IAE) .

Bonuses and Aids

Landlords who rent flats through the municipal exchange will see a 95% bonus, while those who invest in solar panels will be able to enjoy a 10% bonus.

Waste Rate and Bonuses

The waste rate will be increased by 17.1%, with the aim of complying with European regulations that require the costs of the service to be covered by these rates. However, bonuses are introduced to encourage the use of litter.

Dialogue and Collaboration between Groups

The different political groups have highlighted the importance of dialogue during the negotiation process, with a mutual recognition of goodwill when working together to improve the conditions of the city.

Futuristic Perspectives

With the new rates and changes in tax policy, Granollers is preparing to face the challenges of the future, betting on sustainable growth and a better quality of life for its citizens.
