Climate Change in Spain: Heavy Rain on the Horizon

Weather Forecasts for the Week

The next few days could be crucial in the evolution of the climate in Spain, with a particular focus on the northern part of the country. Weather conditions are expected to change dramatically, with heavy rains that could have a significant impact on several communities.

Areas More Vulnerable to the Rains

Regions likely to experience the most intensive rain include Galicia, as well as other areas such as the west of the Central system, the Cantabrian Range and the vicinity of the Pyrenees. According to the data provided by the AEMET, Galicia will be one of the key points where the precipitation will be most noticeable during the first days of the week.

Alerts Issued by the AEMET

The State Meteorological Agency has issued alerts affecting a total of ten territories. The most exposed regions include Galicia, northern Extremadura, Castile and Leon, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, La Rioja, Navarre, as well as parts of the Pyrenees in Aragon and Catalonia. In these areas, the rain will not only be heavy but also persistent, which may lead to complications from flooding.

Regional Differences in Precipitation

Contrary to the northern regions, other parts of Spain, such as the southeastern third of the peninsula, eastern Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, are expected to maintain a stable climate, with minimal chances of rain. These areas could avoid the effects of storms expected in the north.

Prospects for the Second Half of the Week

From Thursday, the meteorological authorities anticipate that the Atlantic circulation will continue, which could prolong the rains in the most northern parts of the country. Although the intensity and extent of precipitation is expected to be more uncertain.

While it is premature to determine exactly the consequences of this new episode of rain, it is likely that wet conditions will continue to affect northern Spain. Authorities are advising citizens to stay tuned to weather updates, especially in areas with heavy rain warnings, as the weather may change significantly in the coming days.
