Computer error affects millions and causes global chaos

Computer bug wreaks havoc worldwide

Last Friday, a major computer failure surprised the world. An inadvertent error in an antivirus system caused the paralysis of various sectors. This impacted millions of people who were unable to travel by plane, make ATM transactions, make medical appointments, or carry out their jobs normally.

The recent update of an antivirus triggered a crash on computers running Windows, from Microsoft. This situation has been covered by various media outlets, although some take advantage of the news to highlight other issues, such as the case of Begoña Gómez.

Impact on global services

The failure at Microsoft affected computer systems on five continents, causing delays in approximately 33,000 flights and the cancellation of nearly 3,700. This incident reminds us of our increasing dependence on technology and, at the same time, exposes the fragility of these systems. Something as simple as an antivirus update can leave us stranded in an airport or without essential medical treatments.

It also highlights the technological dependence that Europe has on the United States, something that now, more than ever, deserves to be reconsidered.

The situation of Begoña Gómez

Meanwhile, the judicial systems in Madrid were not affected. This allowed Begoña Gómez, wife of Pedro Sánchez, to appear before Judge Carlos Peinado. However, she decided not to testify. El Mundo reports that Gómez hopes for a quick closure of the case, part of which is under the jurisdiction of the European prosecutor’s office.

Key witnesses

The former vice-rector of the Complutense University of Madrid did give his testimony, stating that the rector ordered to grant a professorship to Gómez. This statement was highlighted by La Razón. Furthermore, Judge Peinado continues to add those involved, such as the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, who admitted to having met with Pedro Sánchez and Begoña Gómez in La Moncloa.

The case continues its course and there is no near end to this controversy in sight.
