The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) implements changes to improve road safety
The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) is committed to improving road safety and implements constant changes in this regard. Recently, the organization has acquired 15 new radars to control excessive speed on the roads, with an investment of more than a million euros. In addition, other developments are being prepared to further improve road safety.
Modifications to the General Traffic Regulations (RGC)
The DGT has announced a series of amendments to the General Traffic Regulations (RGC) that will enter into force in 2025. These amendments aim to strengthen the roads, reduce the number of accidents and improve the response of drivers to risky situations .
Prohibition to advance in adverse conditions
One of the most important modifications is the prohibition of driving in adverse conditions such as snow, ice or low visibility. From now on, it will be mandatory to stay in the right lane and leave the left for emergency vehicles and snow plows. This measure aims to facilitate the work of road maintenance services and improve safety for all drivers.
Use of the curb for emergency vehicles and motorcycles
Another important modification affects article 36 of the RGC. From now on, cranes and ambulances will be able to travel along the roadsides in emergency situations, as long as they use light signals and do not exceed 30 km/h. In addition, motorists will also be able to drive along the curb in case of significant delays, always respecting a maximum speed of 30 km/h and the priority of bicycles.
Step for emergencies in retentions
In the event of delays or accidents, it is important to know how to react when a police car or an ambulance approaches. Drivers will now have to pull over to the right if they are in the right lane and to the left if they are in the left lane, leaving the center lane free for emergency vehicles. This measure will allow emergency services to reach disaster sites more quickly and save lives.
Improvement of actions on the roads
The new measures implemented by the DGT aim to improve actions on the roads and encourage safer driving. It is the responsibility of all drivers to comply with these rules and adapt to changes to ensure the safety of all road users.
