Recognized errors in the draw
The recent review of the Christmas Lottery draw has revealed that 56 issues were incorrectly announced as winners, a mistake that has generated considerable debate. Despite the recognition of these errors on the part of justice, no compensation for those affected have been planned, although it is ensured that there has been negligence on the part of the Administration.
THE CONTEXT OF DENUnce
Attorney Olga Majoral Bustos, who has brought the case to the media, said that the errors took place during the 2021 draw. Most of the affected numbers were associated with minor prizes, such as 100 euros at tenth, known as ‘Pedrea’. However, these numbers were not reflected in the official awards list.
Initial claim and rejection
Following the detection of errors, Majoral sought to file an administrative claim, which was rejected by Loterías and Apuestas del Estado. The regulations state that only the numbers that appear during the draw are considered, leaving those who were sung out of play.
The court decision
The Court of First Instance in Madrid has admitted that indeed 56 issues were mistakenly sung, representing 3.1% of the total. However, despite recognizing the potential negligence of the supervisors, no compensation for those affected are expensed, as the numbers were officially not awarded.
Reflections on negligence
Majoral has expressed his concern about the responsibility of the inspectors during the draw, noting that they should be able to detect and correct these errors at the time. The lack of effective measures in recent years has led to questioning the integrity of the process.
Specific cases and implications
A highlight is Rubí’s company that acquired 52 tenths of the 59395 number, which was announced during the draw, but did not appear on the winner list. Another similar incident occurred with a number bought by an entrepreneur who was also sung without being awarded.
Calls to improve system
Majoral believes that this situation requires a deep review of the draw system. Its insistence on the need for adequate guarantees reflects the importance of a draw that, beyond a simple entertainment, involves the distribution of millions of euros among the population.
