A growth -in perspective project
Covides, the Penedès Vinícola Cooperativa, has set out to increase its storage and bottling capacity with a new project that has obtained the initial support of the Penedès Territorial Planning Commission. This initiative will be developed on a farm located between the BP-2121 road and the Sant Pau road to Vilafranca del Penedès.
Approval and urban considerations
At its meeting of January 24, the CTUP gave a preliminary approval to the project, which is designed to adhere to the current urban planning regulations. The commission emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony with the surrounding landscape and suggested measures to achieve aesthetic integration with the environment.
A design in tune with the existing
The CTUP has positively evaluated the intention to follow the architectural style of the current winery, ensuring that the extension will not have a negative visual impact. This reflects a commitment to the sustainability and respect for the cultural heritage of the region.
Objectives of the extension
The President of Covides, Rafael Ramon, explained that the main purpose of the extension is to optimize the space dedicated to bottling and storage. The initiative seeks to consolidate the current bottling plant and better organize the facilities to achieve greater operational efficiency.
Long -term expectations
Ramon said that, although the project is advancing favorably, immediate implementation is not foreseen. This will allow the cooperative to adapt to the needs of the market and the production conditions, especially after a complicated harvest season due to the drought.
Current capacity and production
With an annual production of about 2 million bottles of wine, Covides manages a volume of 25 million kilos of grapes from 2,700 hectares of vineyards distributed by about fifty municipalities of the Penedès Designation of Origin. This infrastructure is essential for the sustainability and growth of the cooperative.
New spaces and functionalities
The extension plan includes the creation of new spaces that will facilitate the updating of the bottling line and the increase in storage capacity. New features are planned to build a wider laboratory, a new bottling plant, and several storage areas for raw materials and finished products.
Adaptation to market needs
In addition, the incorporation of a new loading dock and a public sales store will allow Covides to improve their logistics and offer a better experience to customers, thus reflecting a commitment to excellence and innovation.
Growth perspectives
The Vilafranca Municipal Urban Planning Plan contemplates the possibility of expanding the cooperative space up to 50%, which provides a solid legal basis for the expansion of Covides. Currently, the facilities occupy a volume of 35,187.28 m³, with the possibility of increasing this amount significantly, thus reflecting the cooperative’s growth ambitions.
