A different summer for Infanta Cristina
Reflecting on royal vacations is always paradoxical, as it is often difficult to distinguish between their leisure activities and their official duties. This summer will be the first in which Infanta Cristina will enjoy some time off as she is officially divorced from Iñaki Urdangarin. Therefore, her itinerary will not be very surprising: Cristina has adopted a very traditional approach over the years, displaying an inflexible attitude in certain aspects, which her façade reinforces about her.
Cristina and her loyalty to traditions
Cristina remains rooted in her Catholic, apostolic and Roman values. Although she has not requested an ecclesiastical annulment of her marriage, this is probably due more to material reasons than religious ones. Despite having sufficient reasons to request it, she has decided not to do so. Like Queen Sofia, she would have made this decision in an ideal world.
Control over your children
Cristina exercises strict supervision over her four children, preventing them from getting close to Ainhoa Armentia, the woman with whom her ex-husband had an affair. Although not completely successful, she has prevented an overly friendly relationship from developing between them. However, there are aspects in which she has not been as successful.
Your children’s relationships
Each of Cristina’s children has their own path in love. Juan Valentín, the eldest, lives in London with a friend, while Pablo maintains a solid relationship approved by his mother with Johanna Zott. Miguel, for his part, has a relationship with the millionaire Olympia Beracasa. However, Cristina’s great concern is her daughter Irene, who is in love with her distant cousin Juan Urquijo. This forbidden relationship and her inability to obtain a driver’s license are causes of anguish for Cristina.
Cristina’s summer plans
Cristina reportedly has varied plans for this summer. She will visit Abu Dhabi and Marivent to spend time with her parents, she will make a solo trip to Santiago de Compostela as a pilgrim to give thanks for the closure of a cycle, and she will spend a week in Bidart with her four children.
The fate of Bidart
The apartment in Bidart, in the French Basque Country, shared property with Iñaki Urdangarin, will be a place of rest for Cristina. This place was previously used by Iñaki and Ainhoa for their romantic encounters. Cristina will find solace in the landscape and will keep her distance from her children’s partners to avoid any problems with the press.
Cristina’s firmness
With a firm attitude, Cristina has made it clear that she will not allow her children’s partners to be present on her vacation. ‘There’s no room for them here,’ she says, referring to the apartment’s limited space compared to Zarzuela, which has been like a motel for family reunions.
