Disarticulation of a drug trafficking network between Catalonia and Italy

International drug trafficking operation

On March 25, agents of the Mossos d’Esquadra executed a significant operation to dismantle a network dedicated to the traffic of illegal substances, which operated between the Anoia and Alt Penedès region. This action included seven records in different ships and addresses located in localities such as Vilanova del Camí, Capellades and Montmaneu.

Arrests and interventions

During the entrances, six individuals were arrested, between the ages of 20 and 51, to be involved in the cultivation of cannabis and the distribution of marijuana and hashish in Italy and other regions. The operation resulted in the confiscation of more than 1,200 cannabis plants, 2.5 kg of marijuana buds, two firearms, as well as 22,000 euros in cash.

The truck that reveals the illegal business

A routine control on the AP-7 led to the location of 92 kg of hashish and 52 kg of marijuana in a truck heading to France. Agents discovered that the goods were worth more than 280,000 euros, revealing the scale of the illegal business.

An organized model of traffic

Research showed that the group operated very structured. With marijuana interior plantations, the network distributed the drug in collaboration with hashish suppliers, maintaining direct connections with intermediaries in Italy. Shipments were mostly made by road.

Hierarchy of the Criminal Group

The group dome consisted of a leader with managerial roles, assisted by a second member in charge of obtaining hashish. A third individual managed marijuana plantations, while a quarter, with a fixed salary, was in charge of coordinating shipments and closing agreements with intermediaries in Italy.

Legal consequences

The detainees were submitted to the judge on March 26, facing charges of membership in criminal group, illicit possession of weapons, crimes against public health and defrauding electricity supply. All of them had a criminal record, accumulating more than a dozen incidents.

Reflections on drug trafficking

This operation is another example of the continuous efforts of the authorities to combat drug trafficking, an activity that not only affects public health, but also feeds a parallel economy that challenges state authority. International collaboration is essential for dismantling complex networks that operate globally.
