Discontent in the Electric Vehicle Industry: Wayne Griffiths Leaves ANFAC

Wayne Griffiths and his Disillusionment with the Government

Wayne Griffiths has made the decision to resign from his position as president of ANFAC, the vehicle manufacturers’ association, due to his deep dissatisfaction with the Government. According to Griffiths, the Government has failed to deliver on promises made to boost the electric vehicle market, which has caused great frustration in the industry.

One of Griffiths’ main complaints focuses on aid for the acquisition of electric cars by individuals, which must be declared as aid, which has generated discomfort in the sector. In addition, the lack of a stimulus plan to replace the current one, which ends on July 31, has contributed to his decision to leave his position.

Shortage and Poor Distribution of Recharge Points

The AEDIVE Electric Mobility Yearbook reveals that charging points for electric cars in Spain are scarce and poorly distributed. Although Catalonia, Madrid and Andalusia concentrate the majority of charging points, demand exceeds supply, which highlights the need to expand the charging infrastructure throughout the country.

The report also highlights that only 28% of electric car drivers in Spain consider that they can travel by electric car throughout all regions of the country, which underlines the importance of increasing the availability of charging points nationwide.

Territorial Inequality and Recharge Points Out of Service

The AEDIVE report indicates that 45% of the charging points are concentrated in Madrid, Catalonia and Andalusia, which shows significant territorial inequality. This situation places Spain above the EU average in terms of charging points per million inhabitants, which highlights the need to invest in other regions of the country.

In addition, 21% of charging points were out of service, according to data from the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC), which underlines the urgency of improving the quality and maintenance of charging infrastructure throughout the Spanish territory.

Conclusion

The resignation of Wayne Griffiths as president of ANFAC reflects widespread dissatisfaction in the electric vehicle industry due to the failure to deliver on government promises and poor charging infrastructure in Spain. This situation poses a significant challenge to the development and mass adoption of electric vehicles in the country, and it is expected that authorities will take concrete steps to address these concerns in the future.
