Alternatives Refreshing for the Summer
With the high temperatures that characterize August, it’s natural to look for ways to stay cool and hydrated. The options are diverse: from enjoying a day at the beach to relaxing by a pool. Also, nothing better than a good fan or air conditioner, accompanied by light salads and a good amount of refreshing fruit like watermelon and cantaloupe.
Summer Soup: An Unexpected Pleasure
Although the term ‘soup’ may seem unconventional during the warm months, I invite everyone to consider the wonders of a good bowl of ramen. Not only is this soup delicious, but its temperature can help regulate body heat. Also, my passion for ramen is undeniable, so I encourage you to discover this delicacy.
Koku Kitchen: Ramen Paradise
The Koku Kitchen Ramen & Gyoza Bar, located in the vibrant Born district, is one of the most emblematic places in Barcelona to enjoy this soup. Founded in 2014, it has become a benchmark for ramen lovers, offering a unique combination of flavors and quality ingredients. Here, ramen is considered a dish that evokes the warmth of home, both for the Japanese and for the Catalans with the escudella.
Ingredients Frescos i Locals
One of Koku’s distinctive features is its commitment to local produce. Using Catalan ingredients whenever possible, the only exception being those that must be imported from Asia. The quality of their dishes is unmatched, and this is noticeable in every spoonful.
Irresistible starters
Before diving into the world of ramen, it is advisable to start with some starters. Gyozas, these Japanese ridges filled with meat and vegetables, are perfect. Well cooked, with a golden base, and a soy or vinegar sauce that accompanies them, they are an ideal complement. We also tried the karaage, a Japanese fried chicken that stands out for its juiciness and flavor.
Ramen: A Journey of Flavors
Once we get to the main courses, the ramen is the real protagonist. We chose the curry ramen and another spicy one. With rich and intense broths, the noodles always reach the perfect point. The curry ramen stands out for its power, with braised pork that melts in your mouth, while the spicy includes ingredients such as kimchi, which adds a special and healthy touch.
A Surprising Dessert
The grand finale was a banoffee cake that left me speechless. Despite being a British sweet, Koku has given it a unique twist with peanuts in the base. A perfect end to a meal that, despite its forcefulness, was enjoyed to the last spoonful.
An Experience Worth It
If you haven’t tried ramen yet during the summer, I invite you to do so. At Koku Kitchen Ramen & Gyoza Bar, the queue is worth it, and your dining experience will be enriched by the quality of their dishes. Don’t miss the chance to discover this delight during the hot months. See you soon, food lovers!
