Operation against organized crime
On Tuesday, February 11, the Mossos d’Esquadra managed to disarticulate a criminal group that actively operated on the fast tracks of Catalonia, focusing on theft of trucks parked in areas of service and rest.
Arrests and background
Three individuals, between the ages of 27 and 34, have been arrested, accumulating a total of 30 police background between them. These detainees have been submitted to the Court of Igualada, where the investigation is still underway and no more arrests are ruled out.
Investigation ongoing
The investigation began in October 2024, when agents of the Public Order Unit (UOM) detected a series of robberies on trucks. One of the most significant incidents took place in the Jorba service area, on the A-2, with two other incidents recorded on the C-25.
Modus operandi del group
The investigators followed a very definite pattern of action: they arrived in the service areas overnight, violently violent truck trailers as the drivers slept, and selected goods of high economic value. Then they loaded the products in vehicles previously rooted to move them to their homes.
Increased searches and evidence
On March 11, searches were made in Arenys de Mar and Ripollet, resulting in the arrests of the three individuals. In the searched homes, agents discovered stolen goods, vehicle keys, instruments for robberies and even a simulated firearm.
Relationship with other crimes
Research has allowed the detainees to be linked to more than a dozen crimes, including violence, damage, and documentary falsifications. Among the outstanding robberies are two SUV vehicles that have already been recovered.
Consequences and reflections
The disarticulation of this criminal group emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the authorities and the security units to combat the robbery on fast tracks. This operation has not only prevented future robberies, but also highlighted the need for more effective measures to protect drivers and goods in the areas of service.
