Operation against organized crime
Recently, Catalan police officers have disarticulated a group dedicated to theft of truck loads, a growing problem in the areas of service and resting of the Catalan motorways. The intervention took place last Tuesday, results of an investigation that had begun months ago.
Arrests and background
Three individuals, between the ages of 27 and 34, have been arrested. All of them accumulate a total of 30 police background, which shows their experience in similar crimes.
The investigation
The police began its search in October 2024, after detecting an increase in load robberies, especially on the AP-7. In addition, similar incidents were identified on the C-25 and C-16 roads.
Operation methods
The members of the group approached the service areas at night, taking advantage of the moment when the drivers slept in the cabin. Once they were identified highly valuable, such as fashion or cosmetics complements, they proceeded to cut the trailers’ tarpaulins or to force the doors to load the products in stolen vehicles.
Violent actions and intimidation
The modus operandi on this band was not only based on theft, but also included threats and intimidations for drivers and security agents, demonstrating a disrespect for the law and the safety of others.
Searches and discoveries
On March 11, police were searched in Arenys de Mar and Ripollet, where the three suspects were detained. In its homes, stolen goods, vehicle keys, and even a simulated weapon, as well as cash and tools for theft were recovered.
The wide range of research
Researchers have been able to establish connections between detainees and various crimes, including violent robberies, damage, and documentary falsifications. In total, the arrested ones have been linked to dozens of robberies, including those of SUV vehicles, which have already been recovered.
Uncertain future for detainees
The three detained individuals have been filed before the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 4 in Igualada, while the investigations continue, leaving the possibility of more arrests in the future.
